Bridgeport girl, 13, reports fiance missing

BRIDGEPORT, Wash. (AP) — A 13-year-old girl in Bridgeport told the Douglas County sheriff's office that her fiance had disappeared.

A deputy took a missing person report in November from the girl who said she had been dating and having sex with a 19-year-old.

During the investigation the girl said she received a text message from her fiance from Tijuana, Mexico.

The Wenatchee World reports an arrest warrant was issued Thursday for the man, Fernando Torres-Coronado, on a rape charge.

Not all cultures are the same... In some cultures, when a girl hits puberty is when she is considered the most desireable and aften it is at that time that the family encourages her to find a "mate" and to start having children. I in no way, shape, or form feel this is right or healthy for the child. What folks need to realize is that when you move to the United States you must adhere to our laws even if that means dropping some of your old customs.

13 is to young to have sex. But it was her choice to have sex. Her parents could be the best parents in the world. The girl could have made the wrong choice. Also the mexicans up there will take advantage of a apple tree if they could.

Well, we can certainly understand why he went missing. My best friend had sex with a 14 year old when he was in his twenties. She never told. He married someone else, got divorced, and twenty years later the girl married my friend. They have now been married for over 20 years. While what my friend did was, and should be, a crime---it is the condemnation that brings shame to the minor. There has been societies, like many Native American tribes before contact with Christian white men, in which girls were considered able to marry at puberty. There was no condemnation and no shame (other than the normal shyness of a young girl).

And it takes 3 months for authorities to issue a warrant for someone who a minor claims to have been having sex with. So much for protecting the vulnerable among us.
