Officials express concern over use of kids cold meds

SPOKANE -- The risk entails the possibility of developing hives, drowsiness and unsteady balance in children.

Some in the medical community are urging caution in the use of children's cold medicines for those youth under the age of four.
Many drug companies and pediatricians are now warning parents about the use of cold medicine for children less than four years of age.
There had been some discussion of removing children's cold medicines from the shelves, but medical officials became concerned that adults might start administering adult cold medicines to children.
Officials encourage parents to talk to their child's pediatrician to find out what they deem to be in the best interest of their child.
