SPRINGFIELD, Oregon (AP) -- "The Simpsons" helped put the town of Springfield, Oregon on the map. And now the city wants to see if it can capitalize on the coattails of its most famous make-believe residents. Officials are thinking about creating a shopping district with a "Simpsons" theme. One frozen yogurt company says he put up a set of Simpsons statues in front of his store -- and business picked up. He's now after others to do the same. The city says he doubts that in these tough economic times that people would want their tax dollars spent to license cartoon characters. But Springfield's community relations manager says the city would back the idea if it would benefit the town.
