GEOFF TATE SPEAKS UP ABOUT QUEENSRYCHE

NEW YORK (AP) -- The initial dust-up between Queensryche and Geoff Tate was over merchandising and the final straw was about firing his family. Tate tells Rolling Stone he disagreed with the band about outsourcing their merchandise in February, but they found a resolution. He says he later heard rumors that the band wanted to replace him, so he asked. Tate says they denied that, but they had fired the band's manager, office assistant and guitar tech -- who are all members of Tate's family. He says he was ready to go on stage in Brazil and drummer Scott Rockenfield told him, "We just fired your whole family, and you're next." Tate tried to punch him but denies pulling a knife. Tate says the band fired him by letter. The rest of Queensryche were unavailable for comment.
