X-FACTOR: BRITNEY SPEARS SIGNS ON AS JUDGE

LOS ANGELES (AP) -- Paula out, Britney in? That's the latest formula "The X-Factor" is using in an attempt to boost the ratings Simon Cowell boasted about -- but couldn't deliver. Spears has signed on as a judge for the show's second season -- according to a person familiar with the deal. When the show launched last fall, Cowell said the show would draw 20 million viewers -- but only ended up with 12. That isn't bad -- but because the ratings didn't meet Cowell's towering expectations, there was some serious housecleaning. Abdul and Nicole Scherzinger were let go as judges and host Steve Jones was given the heave-ho. However, L.A. Reid will be returning with Cowell to the judges' seat this coming season.
