NEW YORK (AP) -- They started out as three Jewish kids from New York trying to gain acceptance as whites in the mostly black hip-hop world. But since then, the Beastie Boys have made their mark as one of the top groups in the genre. The rapper of the group, Adam Yauch is being remembered as an innovator. Yauch died Friday after a nearly three-year-long battle with cancer. He was 47. Eminem says "it's obvious" how big an influence the Beastie Boys were on his career, calling the group "trailblazers" and saying Yauch "will be sorely missed." Q-Tip says for him and other artists, it was the Beastie Boys who "showed us the ropes." Diddy describes Yauch was "a true pioneer and a creative force." And Nas says he's sorry to lose someone he describes as a "brother."
