TWO BLACK MEN SUE "THE BACHELOR" AND "THE BACHELORETTE" FOR BIAS
NASHVILLE, Tennessee (AP) -- In all the years "The Bachelor" and "The Bachelorette" have been on the air, you have never seen anything but white folks as the lead contestant vying for each other's love and affection. Now, two black men have gone to court to claim that's no coincidence. Nathaniel Claybrooks and Christopher Johnson have filed a federal lawsuit in Nashville claiming the shows are involved in a pattern of racial discrimination that intentionally excludes people of color. They say they went to a casting call for the show -- but were bum-rushed by the producers. Their attorneys say it's the first racial bias lawsuit filed against a reality show. It doesn't ask for a specific dollar amount of damages. But the suit does call for major changes in how people are seen on TV. The company that produces the show says the lawsuit is baseless -- and without merit.
