RASCAL FLATTS ON PARENTING

NASHVILLE, Tenn. (AP) -- Strict or lenient? The members of Rascal Flatts say when it comes to parenting they take after their own moms and dads. Lead singer Gary LeVox has two preteen daughters. He says his parents were strict, and he can be when he wants to be, but usually he strives for a happy medium. Bassist Jay DeMarcus just became a father less than two years ago, and he's expecting a son this summer with his wife, Allison. He says it's important that he's not best friends with his kids. He wants them to feel comfortable enough to come to him with any problems, but not so close that they don't respect his authority. Guitarist Joe Don Rooney has a son and daughter who are both under five.
