Pemberton Music Festival canceled after filing bankruptcy

VANCOUVER, B.C. – The 2017 Pemberton Music Festival scheduled for July 13–16, 2017 north of Whistler, was canceled Thursday after the company filed for bankruptcy.

The festival released a statement explaining there will be no automatic refunds for ticket holders. Patrons may have to wait weeks to learn whether they will get their money back.

“As PMF is now in bankruptcy, it has no ability to provide refunds for tickets purchased,” according to the document, “However ticketholders may file a proof of claim form as an unsecured creditor with (Ernst & Young Inc.) in accordance with the claims process.”

PMF said ticket holders may be able to get refunds if they purchased tickets from a third party vendor such as StubHub. The statement advised ticket holders to contact their banks to see if they are eligible.

As of Thursday afternoon, four-day general admission tickets were on sale for $369 while VIP tickets, which included special entrances, viewing and parking, cost $899. Super VIP tickets were selling for $1,799.

The cancelation came after lineup announcements were delayed several times.

Huka Entertainent, the producer contracted for the event, said it did not make the decision to cancel the festival, but claims it came from Pemberton Music Festival.

“For the past four years Huka Entertainment has worked to create a one-of-a-kind experience in the most beautiful place on earth. We are heartbroken to see the 2017 Pemberton Music Festival canceled,” noted Huka Entertainment.

Scheduled to run in mid-July, it would have been the fourth year the Pemberton event took place. Last year, the festival hosted over 180,000 fans over four days according to the Vancouver Sun.

“We are extremely disappointed for our fans, artists, and all of our partners who have supported the festival over the years,” said Huka Entertainment.
