HAUSER LAKE, Idaho -- Two North Idaho families are dealing with a tragedy this Thanksgiving.  Flames destroyed two homes late Wednesday night around 7:30 p.m.

A 90-year-old man was inside at the time his home caught on fire.  A neighbor quickly went in to save him.

"He was in the bedroom.  He was getting ready to go to bed and he didn't know what happened at all in the house.  He saw a ladder that had fallen down and didn't even know the house was on fire," said neighbor Terry Schneider who rescued 90-year-old Bill Sutherland.

Sutherland was not hurt during the fire.

Neighbors say they heard what sounded like a loud explosion.  Firefighters tried to fight the flames but they ran out of water.  They say bitter cold temperatures also caused problems with their equipment.  Firefighters put foam on the remaining hot spots throughout the day.

Two other homes close by were damaged in addition to the two houses that were destroyed.  The cause of the fire is still under investigation.
