SPOKANE COUNTY-- The Spokane County Sheriff's Office tells KREM 2 News there was substantial flooding at Geiger Correctional Facility for most of Sunday and as of 3pm part of the center's power is still out.
Officals say the floodiing and power outage started around 6 am Sunday. The flooding and power outage was contained to the "A" building. There are no inmates housed there and Geiger officials say there was never any risk to security.
It took officials hours to pump out the water. There was enough water to fill two semi-trucks. Avista put in three new transformers but the power has not been turned back on since all of the equipment is still wet.
Avista is still looking into what caused the flooding and power outage.
