SPOKANE -- A man is dead after being shot and killed by a Spokane Police Officer. It happened at 9:35 p.m. Saturday in the parking lot of the of the Special K Pub & Grill on Garland and Market.
Police say a 34-year-old man died during a confrontation with Spokane police officers after they responded to an altercation between two people.
One person reportedly was armed with a pistol. When officers arrived, they say there was a confrontation with the man with the pistol. Shots were fired and the suspect was killed, despite the efforts of officers who performed CPR. The suspect’s pistol was found nearby.
Nobody else was hurt in the shooting. Emergency crews also tried to save the man but his injuries were too severe. Investigators have not released the man's name. An autopsy is scheduled for Monday.
Police shut down the intersection of Garland and Market while they continued their investigation.
The Critical Incident Response team is investigating the shooting as well as the Spokane County Sheriff's Office.
Investigators located a number of witnesses at the scene, but suspect some may have left prior to the arrival of detectives. Anyone with information regarding the incident who has not already spoken with investigators is encouraged to leave contact information by calling Crime Check at 456-2333.
This is the sixth shooting involving local law enforcement officers since August.
