SPOKANE VALLEY-- The Rachel's Challenge program inspires students to replace violence, bullying and negativity with respect, kindness and compassion.
The program is based on the life and writings of Rachel Scott; the first person killed in the shootings at Columbine High School.
Centennial Middle School launched the program in 2011 and brought it back for students on Wednesday.
Centennial is scheduled to hold an intensive all-day workshop for 100 of its students Thursday.
The Rachel's Challenge speaker said it is a powerful day where they work on breaking down barriers. She said when students realize everyone can be vulnerable, it helps them understand why being kind is so important.
