MIKE BOYLE: Crazy weather and weekend flooding

It has been a crazy couple of seasons of weather. Beginning with winter, the winter that wouldn't end, the second snowiest winter ever. Then the Spring that couldn't get sprung.

March and April seemed like a continuation of winter and now we are jumping straight into mid summer like weather... it's crazy.

Temperatures will rise to around 90 degrees on Saturday. Of course this 20-25 degree increase in temperatures is having a profound effect on our record snow pack. It's melting and this weekend its going to melt so fast the many streams and some rivers will probably flood.

Thus far hydrologists think the main problem area will be the Coeur d'Alene river in the Silver Valley. This area along the river is the most prone to flooding and longtime residents there usually know what to expect. Still, the Shoshone county Sheriffs department is setting up a command post and shelter for those displaced.

A secondary problem this weekend with our crazy heat wave is that people are going to want to cool off in the water. But our rivers are running dangerously fast and could be deadly to those who ignore warnings and take a plunge. I don't expect these abnormally warm temperatures to last long. By Wednesday we'll be back to normal and finally our weather should be a little less crazy.
