30 second game guide

Bring’em Out: Gonzaga Bulldogs 13-5 (3-0 WCC) vs. Santa Clara Broncos 10-9 (1-2 WCC) at the Leavey Center, Thursday at 6:00 p.m. on ESPNU.

Watch for: A dominating performance turned in by the Zags in their first conference road game of the season. There are times in WCC play where Gonzaga tends to let up on its opponent and make it a close game. I don’t think the Bulldogs are quite relaxed enough to do that just yet. Playing a conference foe on the road is still a new experience for several Bulldogs, and should warrant attention to detail (crushing a lesser-opponent) Thursday night.

Fear: Robert Sacre. The Zags big man is playing huge this month. 42 points in the last two games, we’re finally starting to see what should happen night-in and night-out in the WCC season. No one can match up with Sacre’s size and athleticism, and this is what is looks like when he plays his game. When big Rob gets going inside and at least one Bulldogs knocks down a couple of outside jumpers, Gonzaga is tough to beat.

Respect: Kevin Foster. We’re focusing on two players in particular in this game. In addition to Sacre, the Broncos’ biggest scoring threat is Foster. He’s not afraid to shoot the basketball, hoisting up 9+ shots in every game this season. Foster jacked-up 20 three-point attempts last week against USF and connected on eight of them. He’s scored in double figures in 18 of 19 games. A note worth mentioning, Foster missed most of last season with a broken foot. He was averaging 20 points per game when he suffered the injury in early December.

Random Stuff: Gonzaga has won 23 of the last 25 meetings against the Broncos with the last Bulldog loss coming in the McCarthey Athletic Center February 12th, 2007. Santa Clara is the only WCC team to ever win in the new Kennel.
