30 second game guide

Bring’em Out: Gonzaga Bulldogs 13-6 (3-1 WCC) vs. San Francisco Dons 9-10 (3-1 WCC) at War Memorial Coliseum, Saturday at 5:00 p.m.

Watch for: A better prediction on my end this time. “I don’t think the Bulldogs are quite relaxed enough to (lose a WCC game) just yet.” That was my thought coming into the Santa Clara contest Thursday. Obviously, the Zags proved me wrong. Just because you outrank the opponent in just about every category, (talent being the most prominent) doesn’t ensure victory. As far as this match up with the Dons, (who beat GU 81-77 in OT in San Fran last year) I think the Broncos’ wake up call will be enough to refocus and lift the Bulldogs to victory.

Fear: An outside shooting threat. Santa Clara had one, and he hung 36 on the Zags Thursday. I warned of Kevin Foster in the last Game Guide, and now I’m shifting the attention to a guy named Michael Williams. The Dons’ leading scorer (16 ppg) is hitting from beyond the arc at a 50% clip (Foster averages just 38%) and is a definite cause for concern. Of the six Gonzaga losses this season, most of the damage comes via the outside shot.

Respect: Resiliency of the Bulldogs. If Mark Few was able to run his guys back on the court immediately following Thursday night’s loss to face USF, he probably would have. Since that didn’t happen, these kids had to sit with that pain of losing to a team they should have stomped. I have a feeling that will be motivation enough to come out of the Bay Area with a split.

Random Stuff: San Francisco is tied with Gonzaga for second place in the WCC at 3-1. The Dons graduated their biggest Zag-killer, Dior Lowhorn from last year.
