30 second game guide
Bring 'em Out: Gonzaga Bulldogs 16-9 (6-3 WCC) vs. Pepperdine Waves 11-16 (5-5 WCC) at Firestone Fieldhouse at 7 p.m.
Watch For: The train to keep rolling. Old rivals always makes for a great match up, and this year, the Waves are actually competitive in the conference (five wins in ten games). I just think after the win at Loyola, the Zags have regained enough confidence to pull out a win in Malibu tonight.
Fear: It's always Keion Bell, but now it's a "more unified" Pepperdine squad. The Waves best player (and certainly in the WCC's top-three discussion), Bell was suspended for the remainder of the season last week for "conduct detrimental to the team". Rumor had it, Bell was suspended last season for "shoving" Waves head coach Tom Asbury. Though it was never confirmed, it remains that this isn't Bell's first team suspension. Apparently, this has brought Pepperdine closer together, and it's playing like it.
Respect: Gonzaga's big three. They came through the last time the Bulldogs rode the Waves. Robert Sacre, Steven Gray and Elias Harris combined for 62 points in a 92-75 victory in the Kennel January 13th. These three also happen to be the leaders of this young squad. Look for another collective effort good enough to stifle the Waves, again.
Random Stuff: Pepperdine is 5-2 without the services of Keion Bell and is currently on a two-game winning streak. The Waves are a half-game back of Santa Clara for the four seed in the WCC.
