30 second game guide

Bring’em Out: Gonzaga Bulldogs (5-5) at No. 9 (AP/Coaches) Baylor Bears (7-0) at American Airlines Arena Saturday at 1:30 p.m. on ESPN2.

Watch for: Hopefully a competitive game. The win over Lewis-Clark State gave the Zags something they desperately needed: confidence. Even though the Warriors hail from the NAIA, the Bulldogs were able to do two vital things Thursday night; snap the three-game skid, and get the non-regulars some quality minutes. Those two ingredients are a recipe for success. Let’s hope it’s enough to topple the Bears come Saturday.

Fear: Amongst others, LaceDarius Dunn. Unusual name, unusual talent. After being suspended by the team for the first three games of the season for a domestic dispute charge involving his girlfriend, Dunn has scored no-less than 20 points in each of the four contests he’s participated in. Mark Few calls him “an NBA talent”, and he’s not lying. But the reason the Bears are a top-10 team, is because of Dunn’s supporting cast. Quincy Acy and Perry Jones are each averaging a little over 13 points and nine rebounds a game. Gonzaga will need multiple guys to have season-best performances to win.

Respect: Robert Sacre. The Zags’ big man has been understated for the most part this year. He’s put up solid numbers the past four games (averaging nearly 13 points and nine boards) and has a knack for breaking out against top-ranked teams (13 points, 10 rebounds vs. No. 11 San Diego St. and 17 points vs. No. 6 Kansas State).  Look for as-good or better numbers Saturday if he gets in a groove. Also, Elias Harris seems to coming out of his early-season shell. Hopefully we’ll see him make some major contributions as well.

Random Stuff: This will be the third time GU will match up with Baylor, with the most recent coming in 2007 (W, 78-69). The Bulldogs are 2-0 all time against the Bears.
