This past Saturday was the 10 year anniversary of Diabetes Day at Spokane Community College, what a great time to start blogging about diabetes! It was great to see so many familiar faces getting helpful information and “recharging” their batteries to take care of their diabetes. I can’t count the number of times I was told by someone “I came here today to remind myself what I need to do to take care of myself”. As a diabetes educator, there is nothing more rewarding than meeting a patient that wants to educate themselves!
The goals of this blog will be to share some of the things I learn as a dietitian and diabetes educator from my patients about how they live successfully with diabetes. Diabetes is not just a chronic disease that many of you live with day in-day out, but also an extremely personal part of who you are, hence the title of this blog being “Diabetes: It's Personal.”
One of the challenges I have given myself in 2010, is to try a new, healthy recipe each week. I work full time, so these recipes also have to be quick and convenient. I will be sharing these recipes with you and adding my own tips after purchasing ingredients, preparing and serving them to my guinea-pig husband. I have a five month old baby, so I want a full repertoire of family approved recipes by the time she is ready to eat solid food!
I would also love to hear your comments/questions regarding the content of my blog and/or your experiences with diabetes. Looking forward to hearing from all of you!
