Defeating "Diabetes Burnout"

As a diabetes educator, I often see “diabetes burnout”. Dealing with a chronic disease like diabetes gets tiring. There are the daily tasks like blood sugar testing and medication regimens that can easily get in the way of what is thought to be a “normal” life. Fortunately, there are resources to help people with diabetes deal with this burnout. I like to refer patients to the resources provided by the Behavioral Diabetes Institute, a nonprofit organization dedicated to tackling the unmet psychological needs of people with diabetes. At their website, www.behavioraldiabetes.org
you can sign up for a free quarterly e-newsletter, get free advice about how to deal with the psychological side of diabetes and learn about the institute’s program and services. The founder, Dr William H Polonsky, is a leader in the area of behavioral diabetes.
