PULLMAN -- Bill Moos has accepted Washington State University's offer to become the school's new athletic director.

Moos was brought to campus last Wednesday to meet with the athletic department, coaches, and even the general public. He was then offered the job on Friday.

Moos will replace Jim Sterk who was formally announced as the new athletic director at San Diego State University on Monday. An official press conference introducing Moos is scheduled for 2pm on Wednesday in Pullman.

Considered the top candidate for the position from the beginning, Moos brings a proven track record to Washington State. He served as the athletic director at Montana for five years before taking over at the University of Oregon in 1995. Moos stayed with Oregon until 2007, leading the Ducks into the national spotlight in his time there.

Moos was an offensive lineman for the WSU football team from 1970-1972. After his time at Oregon, Moos returned to the Spokane area and became involved with the athletic department at Washington State. It was always rumored that he would like to return to his alma mater as the athletic director if the position ever opened up.

Moos was invited to interview for the position by school president Elson Floyd after a public outcry to bring him in as the school's new AD.

“In recent days I have received a number of messages from Cougar supporters indicating an interest in Bill Moos as a candidate for the athletic director position,” Floyd said in a statement last Tuesday. “In light of that sentiment, I believe it is important to bring Bill to campus to allow him to meet with members of the campus community to determine the mutual level of interest going forward.”

KJR in Seattle is reporting that Moos has agreed to a five-year deal and will begin his duties at Washington State on May 1st.
