I’ve seen squirrels, I’ve seen deer, and being from the same city as Anheuser Busch, I’ve even seen Clydesdales. One thing I have never seen is a moose-- until today, that is.

I never realized they freely ambled around this part of the country until I moved here, although I never thought about it before either.

A viewer submitted a picture of a wandering moose just after I started this job more than a year ago. It naturally amazed me but everyone else in the newsroom seemed unimpressed. To them, it’s an everyday sight. My mission to see one in person started that day.

The sisters at the Immaculate Heart Retreat Center called KREM 2 today because of a moose in their yard, just a couple of miles from the station. Trevor, one of our photographers, and I dashed over to see it for ourselves. The sisters kindly let us in, and we saw the animal relaxing under a tree.

The Clydesdale-size deer, as it seemed, grew tired of listening to us talk about it after five minutes or so. It quickly stood up and ran away. The experience was truly awesome.

I can now say I feel like a real Spokanite.
