TACOMA, Wash. -- Thousands of law officers and members of the public are expected to attend Tuesday's memorial service in the Tacoma Dome for Pierce County Sheriff's Deputy Kent Mundell.
The service for begins at 1 p.m. and is expected to last three hours. The public is invited to attend the memorial and line the procession route, scheduled to begin at 10 a.m.
Mundell was fatally shot Dec. 21 while responding to a domestic violence call near Eatonville. Mundell managed to fire back on the suspect, killing him, before Mundell collapsed. Deputy Mundell is the sixth Western Washington law enforcement officer to die violently in two months.
From chicken at a fast food joint to rhythm and blues at a local lounge, two of the more unique fundraisers for Deputy Mundell's family took place over the weekend.
At Popeye's in Pierce County, every customer purchase helped.
"What we're doing is giving 10 percent of what we make to the family," said Kim Timmons, Popeye's employee.
At the Nectar lounge in Seattle, Adrian Sims, Melissa Roork, Sean Carson and Zach Trandum performed great music for a great cause.
"We thought it would be a good idea to donate all the proceeds to his family," said Roork. "We just really want to give his family a blessing and help them through this hard time."
As a deputy, Kent Mundell did so much to help so many. And now his family is getting help from so many - the kindness of strangers.
"We have to pray for those families and hope everything works out for them, do our best to help them," said Shelton Braxton, Tacoma.
