SPOKANE -- A local elementary school's fundraiser for stuffed animals and spare change to be given to Haitian children has been an overnight success, but there's a problem -- the school can't find a way to get it all to Haiti.
Students at Adams Elementary, Hunter, Nick, Tember, Eve and Sim, were moved by the aftermath of the earthquake in Haiti and started the drive.
In just three days, they've raised $1,000 and about 1,000 stuffed animals. According to UPS measurements, it would cost about $600 to ship the stuffed animals.
Initially, Adams students and parents had hoped the U.S. Navy would take the donated items, but they haven't heard back. Parents also contacted State Senator Lisa Brown, and State Representative Chris Marr.
Spokane Public Schools officials say they are making calls of their own as well, trying to get Fairchild Air Force Base or the Inland Northwest Red Cross on board.
