SPOKANE COUNTY-- A local man spent a decade protecting the Spokane community and is now on the receiving end.
Stoy Dabbs was diagnosed with cancer and is having trouble paying his medical bills. The search and rescue volunteer helped with water rescues.
In December, doctors found a cancerous tumor eating away at his vertebrae. He is now confined to a wheelchair but hopes physical therapy gives him a chance to walk again. In the meantime, he is facing a mountain of medical bills. So far, his treatment has cost about $300,000.
Now, the Spokane County Sheriff’s Office and the Search and Rescue Team is hosting a charity dinner. It is scheduled for Wednesday at the New-Tech Skills Center on North Regal. It runs from 5:30 p.m. to 7:00 p.m. and people can also partake in a silent auction.
