RATHDRUM-- Tuesday was the first school day at the new Kootenai Technical Education campus. It's a facility that provides career training for high school students.

The Kootenai Technical Education Campus or K-TEC admits 500 students from the Post Falls, Rathdrum, and Coeur d'Alene area.

At K-TEC students focus on what they want to do after high school graduation.

11th and 12th graders get hands-on experience in health care, construction, and engineering.
5210 they don't have it at the high school, that's why it’s such a great opportunity because we're going to be trained and ready.

School director Mark Cotner said the school is the first of its kind in North Idaho.

As of the first day of class several companies were already recruiting from K-TEC.
