Driver impaled by pole after crashing into chain link fence in east central Spokane

The driver was taken to a local hospital and is expected to be OK, according to Spokane police officer John O'Brien. Sprague Avenue has reopened.

SPOKANE, Wash. — A driver was impaled by a pole after crashing into a chain link fence in east central Spokane on Tuesday morning. 

The crash happened at about 10:45 a.m. Sprague Avenue was closed briefly between Ivory and Perry Streets while officers investigated the crash, according to Spokane Police Ofc. John O'Brien. It has since reopened.  

Officers on scene said the driver was injured but is expected to survive, Spokane Police Officer John O'Brien said. They were taken to a local hospital for treatment.
