SPOKANE, Wash. - The Gonzaga women's basketball team will head to California as the No. 13 seed in the Lexington Region to play the host team No. 4 seed Stanford on Saturday.
The 13-seed is the lowest the program has ever received.
The team gathered on-campus to watch the Selection Monday show together, and cheered when they heard their name.
Gonzaga beat Stanford 68-63 last season in a game Jill Barta scored 26 points. The Cardinal has a 7-1 edge in the series. Zags lost to the Pac-12 power in the Elite Eight in 2011, a game played in Spokane.
This year, they will play Stanford on Saturday at 3:00 PT in California.
By getting placed in the Lexington Region the Bulldogs will not have an opportunity to play in the Spokane Arena during the Regional rounds.
