SPOKANE, Wash.—Thousands of Washington drivers are taking action to change parts of the new distracted driving law.
A petition on Change.org aims to change the section of the law that allows a secondary offense for anyone caught eating or drinking when a driver is pulled over for another traffic violation.
The petition had over 8,000 signatures Tuesday morning. The law went into effect Sunday.
The petition stated the reason the law should be changed is for people who commute long hours in the car and the only time they have for eating and drinking is during their commute.
