UPDATE: SPD Officials said the roads are back open.
SPOKANE, Wash. - A man was killed in a shooting in downtown Spokane on Tuesday afternoon, according to Spokane Police Department.
Officials said they responded to the corner of Washington Street and Main at about 3:45 p.m. to reports of a deceased person. Medics tried to revive the victim, a male, but he was pronounced dead at the scene.
SPD said the cause of death is being investigated. They said they were speaking to witnesses and pulling surveillance footage from local businesses.
Spokane Police Department officials tweeted that Washington Street between Sprague and Spokane Falls and Main between Stevens and Bernard will be closed. The roads will remain closed for "hours," an SPD officer estimated Tuesday at 5 p.m.
"We're going to say right now there is no threat to the public right now," an officer at the scene said. "We believe, we don't know if it's self-inflicted or if somebody else was involved, but we believe that we have anybody that was involved, or a witness or anything, we're talking to them right now."
SPD asked if anyone saw what happened in the area at the time of the shooting, they contact SPD.
"We don't know if it was accidental, if it was on purpose, that is all being investigated at this time," an officer at the scene said.
He recommended avoiding downtown Spokane on your evening commute and said he expects the road closure to be in place well into Tuesday night.
