Hundreds of backpacks handed out for Tools 2 Schools 2016

SPOKANE, Wash. – On Wednesday, many local schools received supplies from KREM’s Tools 2 Schools campaign. After a busy morning of sorting, volunteers drove throughout North Idaho and Spokane delivering stuffed backpacks for area students.

Because of your generous donations, kids of all ages will be receiving those backpacks.

The architecture firm NAC decided to challenge other businesses to raise supplies and money for Tools 2 Schools. Wednesday, they threw a party to honor the company that raised the most. More than $11,000 was raised for Tools 2 Schools.

It was a busy day down at Sheridan Elementary School as volunteers gathered to distribute hundreds of backpacks. Volunteers with Communities in Schools spent Wednesday packing up backpacks to be delivered to schools throughout Spokane and Cheney. In all, the Tools 2 Schools campaign will help deliver nearly 2,000 backpacks to area kids – empowering them on that first day of school.

Chuck Teegarden of Communities in Schools said this campaign means a lot to the kids.

“It takes a lot of the anxiety out of the start of school for them when they’re properly equipped,” he said. “And they’re always very excited to get the new backpacks.”

A special thanks to our partners, the Coeur d’Alene Casino Resort. They donated more than 500 backpacks and $10,000 to the cause.
