SPOKANE, Wash. --- A handwritten note filled with hate was hand-delivered to a North Spokane gym Thursday night, according to the gym’s owner.
Krav Maga Spokane located on North Division Street is a place where people learn how to defend themselves. And now, the gym's owner and lead instructor Brayson Buckner is defending his business against hate speech.
"I have been in business for over 7 years here and never had anything like that happen,” said Buckner.
Buckner said Friday morning his staff found the note on their front door. The note had an anti-Semitic message laced with expletives.
"I didn't really know what to think,” said Buckner. "The note was pretty anti-Semitic and anti-Krav Maga"
After finding the note, Buckner said he reviewed his surveillance camera video. In the video, a person with a backpack can be seen sitting down writing the note. A few minutes later the person is seen putting the note on the front door and then walks away.
Krav Maga is a military self-defense technique that was developed for the Israel Defense Forces and Israeli security forces. Buckner said the training at his gym is not political or religious.
"It's just fitness, self-defense for everybody, keeping our community safer,” said Buckner.
Buckner said he wants the public’s help identifying this person.
"I'd like to invite him down and chat with him and maybe find out why he feels the way he does,” said Buckner. "Ultimately, my goal with my business and my instructors is to create a safer community for everybody, so we don't have to feel hatred and don't let it get to us."
Buckner said he filed a police report. Spokane Police said a situation like this could potentially warrant a charge of malicious harassment.
