KOOTENAI COUNTY, Idaho --- The bodies of a man and a woman were found in a Coeur d’Alene apartment complex Thursday evening in what police believe was a murder-suicide.

The bodies were found on the bottom floor of the Falls Creek apartment building on North Julia Street, according to Coeur d’Alene Police Department’s Jared Reneau. Reneau also said the two occupants have not been seen for about a week before this and the police were called to the scene around 4:50 p.m. Thursday by reports of a bad odor.

Police said they met with the manager of the apartment complex and allowed officers to enter the apartment for a welfare check. Inside the apartment, the officers found two people dead.

The police said any time they find two bodies together like this it is immediately suspicious and investigations start at once. Investigators said they are questioning neighbors to find out anything. Police have also taped off a vehicle they believe belongs to one of the deceased.

Police do not believe there is a continued threat to the public. Detectives remain on scene collecting evidence. The names of the man and woman are being withheld pending next of kin notification.
