MEDICAL LAKE, Wash. – The body of an adult female was recovered from a Medical Lake home after a fire early Tuesday morning, Spokane County Sheriff’s Office authorities confirmed.
On Thursday, the Spokane County Medical Examiner identified the victim as 62-year-old Cherie Wilson. The ME said Wilson died of smoke inhalation after the fire engulfed the home near East Barker Street and North Stanley Street.
Officials responded to the scene at about 12:45 a.m. Tuesday. When they arrived, they found a heavy amount of smoke and fire at the residence. They said it was difficult to get into the home because there was a "large amount of debris in and around the residence."
Mark Gregory, with SCSO, said fire personnel and law enforcement responded to the scene as a standard protocol.
Officials are still investigating the cause of the fire.
