SPOKANE, Wash. – Spokane Police and the Spokane Fire Department responded Saturday evening just before 7:30 to a shooting at the 1600 block of East Bismark Avenue. Officials said a female called in to report her boyfriend had been shot in the leg.

When officers arrived on scene they performed first aid to the victim. Initially the victim told police a black male attempted to steal from him and then shot him. Officials said the victim was going in and out of consciousness and was taken to a local hospital for treatment of his injuries.

Spokane Police identified the suspect as Karla Licea, 25. Licea was identified by police as the victim’s girlfriend. According to officials, Licea initially said she did not know her boyfriend had been shot. The Spokane Police Major Crimes Unit helped with the investigation. It was later determined Licea shot her boyfriend in the leg. She was booked into the Spokane County Jail for 1st Degree Unlawful Possession of a Firearm and Assault 1st Domestic Violence. The victim was in stable condition at the hospital.
