SPOKANE, Wash. – A Whitworth student won big on a Price is Right episode that aired Thursday.

Danny Butler is an engineering student and he said he is the biggest game show fan, ever and watches the show all the time. He’s been preparing to be on the show since second grade.

“I would end up going to the grocery store and try and memorize the prices so I could beat them on the show the next morning,” Butler said.

On his eighth Price is Right themed birthday party, he knew he was destined for game show greatness.

“Game shows are my sport. People watch basketball, the players, know the strategies. Well this is me and game shows,” he said.

This is Danny's second try being on the show so he knows what it takes. The key to getting onto the show is standing out in the interview process. Three hundred contestants get 30 seconds each and this time Danny was going to stand out.

“When we sat down, my eyes were on the interviewer who stands off to the side who is marking down where people are sitting, and then he looks directly at me,” he said.

Then he heard that famous phrase, “Come on down! You are the next contestant on the Price is right!”

This was the moment everything was leading up to, years of watching and strategizing.

“I lost it again. I haven't even won the car yet so I probably shouldn't have done that but I was so genuinely excited and could not wait,” he explained.

The hardest part for him was keeping it all a secret. Since the show aired Thursday, he will soon be driving his new car! His love of game shows does not stop at the Price is Right.

“I slowly transitioned into Wheel of Fortune, Jeopardy. Ken Jennings was someone on Jeopardy who won 63 days in a row and I watched every single night,” he said.

His goal after graduation to win the Amazing Race with his mom and then on to Survivor.
