SPOKANE, Wash.—The Spokane Police Department arrested a suspect involved in Saturday's fatal hit and run.
Law enforcement arrested Bobby Bowerman, 36, Sunday. He made his first court appearance Monday for felony hit-and-run. Investigators were given another day to provide a probable cause affidavit to the court, before a decision is made on his bond or next court date. He will appear in court again on Tuesday.
SPD officials said an officer spotted a truck near Buckeye Avenue and Lee Street that matched the hit and run suspect’s vehicle. SPD officers said the truck had damage consistent with the fatal collision.
Investigators said they rely on witness statements, physical evidence and surveillance video in cases like these.
"The quicker we can find a person to talk to or before evidence is gone really helps solve the case," said Spokane Police Public Information Officer John O'Brien.
Police are up against the clock in these cases and they do not want the trail to go cold.
"There are some outstanding cases that are years old that we sure would like new clues to come into because what we have so far just doesn't lead us to that person," O'Brien said.
Even though there are challenges when investigating hit and run crashes, Spokane Police are confident they are able to close many of these cases.
