SPOKANE, Wash. -- A Spokane woman has joined a special class of runners from around the U.S. It took her ten years, but she has completed her goal of running a full marathon in all 50 states.

Yvonne Wisse, 34, joins about 4,300 people from across the U.S. and 17 foreign countries in the 50 States Marathon Club. The club is a national non-profit for those who have or are working to complete 50 marathons in 50 states.

On Sunday, Wisse completed the Honolulu Marathon in Hawaii in 4 hours and 26 minutes. It is the fourth largest marathon in the United States. It was her 50th state she has run a marathon. She was surrounded by family and friends.

"That last mile I was pretty much hyperventilating. I was so excited to get so close to the finish line,” said Wisse. "It's so amazing. I am so glad to have achieved it."

Wisse said she comes from a running family. She was on the cross country team in middle school and kept running through college. In fact, she set this goal a decade years ago with a friend from college.

"I think it was just the idea of accomplishing something that not everyone has done. Just even finishing a marathon in its self not many people have done and just doing it over and over again was a goal of mine,” said Wisse.

Wisse moved to Spokane two years ago with her husband who is stationed at Fairchild. She said he has been one of her biggest cheerleaders.

"It just takes dedication, because you have to set aside three four hours of your weekend to just running,” said Wisse. “Dedicating my life and time and I guess my money to making it work."

Wisse said one of her fondest memories was running the Boston Marathon in 2006.

"Turning the corner and seeing the finish line for Boston changed my life. And it was exactly what solidified me wanting to do all the states, because you're just surrounded by elite runners, you're surrounded by runners from all over the United States and you realize that anywhere you go in the United States there's going to be another runner just like you," said Wisse.

Wisse said she is considering doing some international marathons, but for now she is enjoying some much deserved rest and relaxation.
