SPOKANE, Wash. --- The Spokane Investigative Regional Response Team (SIRR) is investigating after a SPD office shot a man in the northeast part of town over the weekend.

In a release, the Spokane County Sheriff’s Office identified the man shot as Terry Wallette, 29. The release offers more insight into what happened in the area of Fairview and Perry just before the shooting.

Witnesses told officers Wallette was armed with a knife and yelling at people as he charged toward them, the release said.

“The officers tried to deescalate this extremely tense situation and gave commands for Wallette to stop and drop the knife but he did not comply,” according to the release. “Witnesses heard Wallette yelling for officers to shoot him; officers requested medics reporting Wallette stabbed himself with the knife.”

“Witnesses told investigators Wallette, with the knife still in his hand, moved quickly toward officers and the officers fired their weapons, striking Wallette,” the release said.

At last check, Wallette was in stable condition, SCSO said. He faces possible charges of felony assault and weapons charges. The SIRR investigators will continue to look into this case.
