SPOKANE VALLEY, Wash. -- A Spokane County deputy and his K9 tracked down two burglary suspects who were stealing copper wire from the closed Kaiser Plant early Tuesday morning.

Around 2:00 a.m., officials said a late 90’s Honda Accord parked behind the old Kaiser plant on East Hawthorne caught the eye of deputy. Authorities said the vehicle was unoccupied but the hood was still warm. The deputy said the he saw recently broken window on the surrounding buildings. The deputy then called additional deputies to search for suspects.

Deputy Phil Pfeifer, his partner K9 Enzo and several additional deputies assisted. Several K9 announcements were made before and throughout the search. Authorities said K9 Enzo began searching the area and led deputies into a fenced area and several buildings. While the deputies and K9 were searching inside one of the buildings, another deputy he had a suspect, later identified as Dylan Lindsey, 36, detained outside and there was potentially another man and woman hiding at the location.

Not long after, K9 Enzo contacted a woman, later identified as Miranda Coleman, 37, hiding behind a door in the dark. She was later taken into custody. The search continued but a third suspect was not located.

Officials said Lindsey told deputies that he heard the K9 announcements but did not want to be bitten, so he was running to surrender. Deputies said both Lindsey and Coleman admitted they were at the business to steal copper, had seen the “No Trespassing” signs on the fence of the business and even remember previously being trespassed from the location.

Authorities said Coleman had multiple flashlights, two pair of pliers and, inside the backpack she was carrying, deputies found over 20 pounds of copper wire.

Coleman was given medical attention before being transported to the Spokane County Jail where she was booked for second degree burglary, possession of burglary tools and third degree theft. Lindsey was transported to the Spokane County Jail and booked for second degree burglary and third degree theft.

Both suspects were released on their own recognizance after they appeared in court later that afternoon.
