Poor air quality, high heat roll into the Inland Northwest

Spokane's air quality is sitting in the unhealthy range as of Wednesday morning. Meanwhile, an excessive heat warning is in effect at 2 p.m.

SPOKANE, Wash. — Spokane County's air quality is sitting in the "unhealthy" range as of 5 a.m. on Wednesday, according to the Spokane Regional Clean Air Agency.

More than a dozen wildfires are burning throughout eastern and central Washington, and North Idaho.

The amount of fine particulate matter was over 170 Wednesday morning. By about 2:30 p.m., that amount drop to 127, meaning the air quality is unhealthy for some groups.

Meanwhile, an excessive heat warning is in effect in our area Wednesday afternoon. Triple digit heat is expected until Friday, with the highest temperature on Thursday.

Spokane's expected high is 98 on Wednesday, 104 on Thursday and 99 on Friday. You can view the full forecast here.

The warning begins at 2 p.m. Wednesday and remains in effect until 8 p.m. Friday, according to the National Weather Service.

Republic, Inchelium, Wauconda, Lewiston, Lapwai, Peck, Culdesac, Gifford, Moscow, Plummer, Potlatch, Genesee, Coeur d`Alene, Post Falls, Hayden, Worley, Wenatchee, Chelan, Entiat, Cashmere, Omak, Okanogan, Brewster, Bridgeport, Oroville, Nespelem, Waterville, Mansfield, Pullman, Colfax, Rosalia, La Crosse, Oakesdale, Tekoa, Uniontown, Ritzville, Grand Coulee, Odessa, Wilbur, Coulee City, Colville, Deer Park, Chewelah, Newport, Kettle Falls, Spokane, Cheney, Davenport, and Rockford.
