SPOKANE VALLEY, Wash. --- It has been more than a year since Cory Fowler was found shot to death in his Spokane Valley apartment.

No arrests have been made in the case, but there is new movement in the investigation.

Newly released court documents show police seem to be focusing on a woman named Christina Stiles.

Stiles is Fowler’s ex-girlfriend and the mother of his daughter. Per court records, authorities recently got a search warrant to go through her emails and cell phone records.

Fowler’s family said Monday night the only thing possibly worse than losing their son has been knowing the person who killed him is free.

"We can't move on,” said Cory’s mother, Patty Fowler. “Everything is the same as the day we found him."

Fowler's parents told KREM 2 it has been some time since they have seen so much activity on the case.

They said it is reassuring, but no amount of justice will ever fill the void left by their son.

"Realizing I'll never have him back... it's just horrible,” said Patty Fowler.

“It's a range of emotions,” Cory’s father, Dan Fowler, said. “Anger, disgust. Anything you can imagine"

Police said Fowler’s body was inside his apartment for a week before he was found by his father in March 2016. The case is still open and detectives told the Fowlers they are going to continue looking for leads.
