Organizers plan ‘March for Our Rights’ to educate people about firearms

The organizers said, at the end of the day, they just want a safe place to live and raise their children.

SPOKANE, Wash. — “March for our rights” organizers are planning a demonstration in Spokane Saturday morning with a purpose to educate people on firearms.

The “march for our rights” is intended to be a rally in support of the second amendment. Organizers will be in the northeast corner of Franklin Park with one central message: People should not be afraid of firearms.

The event is hosted by Spokane Conceal Carry. Organizers Tadd Howard and Chris Evola hope to encourage people to legally open carry.

Evola, who started Spokane Conceal Carry in November, said his goal is to educate people about their gun rights and to give gun enthusiasts a way to connect.

“We want to educate people that we aren't dangerous people just because we choose to carry a firearm,” Evola said.

According to the Facebook event, Washington State Representatives Matt Shea and Bob McCaslin will be at the demonstration and will be giving speeches.

Organizers also said two Spokane Police officers will be stationed at the march and local businesses were notified as well.

"The reason why we are gathering and doing it while open carrying is to help educate these people who aren't aware,” Howard said. "I would hope that everybody takes their God given right very seriously, because if you are willing to bargain them away to the government then you are stripping yourself of freedoms.”

Howard said there is a misconception that groups like his are right-wing extremists. He said this is not true, they just want to have their voices heard and their rights preserved.

"My take on it is we all need to sit down at the table and we need to focus on the actual matter at hand, we don't need to play the blame game,” Howard said.

The organizers said, at the end of the day, they just want a safe place to live and raise their children.

For them, that means having the freedom to carry a gun.

"Trying to come to a solution to where we can keep our schools safe, we can keep our communities safe, without infringing of the rights of millions of law abiding citizens,” Evola said.
