SPOKANE, Wash. – Spokane Police arrested a man on multiple felony charges following a pursuit in North Spokane Wednesday night..
Police said they received several calls from the area of North Nevada Street and East Wellesley Avenue. Police said a man was intentionally ramming his car into others cars in a parking lot, and also began striking the building of a business.
Police said the suspect, identified as 33-year-old Joseph T. Harper, was likely intoxicated.
SPD said Harper failed to stop when officers arrived on scene and then attempted to flee in his vehicle. Due to the suspect’s reported behavior, police determined he was a threat to the community who needed to be apprehended and a pursuit was initiated.
The suspect vehicle crashed near the intersection of Rowan and Cincinnati. Police said Harper then fled on foot and a K9 unit was utilized.
Harper was located a few blocks away and taken into custody.
According to police, their investigation revealed Harper also attempted to run over a citizen. Police also said Harper was driving a stolen vehicle and was believed to be under the influence of drugs.
Harper was taken to the hospital for treatment of his injuries sustained in the crash.
Police said Harper will be booked for first-degree assault, second-degree malicious mischief, attempting to elude a police vehicle, second-degree taking a motor vehicle without owner’s permission, DUI and hit-and-run.
