SPOKANE, Wash.— The Spokane County Medical Examiner has confirmed the identity and the cause of death of the woman killed in Tuesday's shooting on the lower South Hill.

59-year-old Danette "Dee" Kane died from a gunshot wound. Another male victim was shot in the head during the shooting and is in critical condition.

Spokane Police are searching for the person involved in the shooting on West 10th Avenue. Initially, the person of interest as a woman, however, Wednesday night SPD asked for the public's help to identify if the subject was male or female. They are described as African-American and between the ages of 25-35.

SPD released this image of the person of interest believed to be tied to the fatal shooting.

Police said they do not know if or how the suspect and victims knew each other.

The shooting is a homicide investigation. Major Crimes detectives have taken over the investigation. If you have any information, you are asked to call Crime Check at 509-456-2233.

SPD said Wednesday afternoon they did not have any more information to release, but detectives are working "aggressively" on the investigation.

Family told KREM 2 that Kane owned Westview Manor apartments, where the shooting happened. They said she was supposed to be on the road to Montana on Tuesday, but had decided to stay one more night before her trip.

She was found shot to death in the stairwell, neighbors said. Tenants in the building said the man who was shot - who has not yet publicly been identified - was the building manager.

"We gathered together this morning and we all talked about what we knew and didn't know and everyone is really bummed out about it," said Jeremy Logan, who lives in the building. He said he had gotten to know the building manager in his time there.

"He was our friend," Logan said. "He wasn't just a guy who collected rent and fixed things. He was our friend."

Tenants also remembered Kane fondly, saying she was friendly and they never had any problems with her.
