SPOKANE, Wash. -- Spokane International Airport is expanding after it saw a record number of passengers this year.
The number of passengers flying through the airport could spike at the end of 2017 as much as 10 percent compared to last year.
As a result, the airport is adding more flight options, including new flights to Dallas, Chicago and San Francisco.
"Now that we have that option, it's a lot nicer than having to drive to Seattle to just get a one hop flight," said passenger Michael Gray. "It's really great to be able to hop in the Spokane Airport, go right there and not worry about missing your second flight."
The airport will also add a new gas station on the airport property for people to use and a new hotel. Work on those projects will start in 2018.
After 2018, the airport is making even more changes. There will be new security lines, a remodel of the terminal, and baggage claim will be moved to a centralized location.
The goal is to bring in more passengers and invest in the Inland Northwest.
"We can bring business people from South America to Spokane in one stop," said Larry Krauter, the CEO of Spokane International Airport. "That really is what the game changer is for the economy."
