'Can't believe this happened again': Car crashes into South Hill YMCA

Two workout class participants were taken to the hospital for minor injuries on Friday morning after a car drove into the South Hill YMCA.

SPOKANE, Wash. — Two workout class participants were taken to the hospital for minor injuries on Friday morning after a car drove into the South Hill YMCA on East 57th Avenue.

Police say the driver mistakenly hit the gas and drove into the building.

It's the second time in less than a year that a car crashed into the YMCA.

"Can't believe this happened again," a contractor with the building's owner told KREM reporter Shayna Waltower.

Witnesses told Waltower that they heard a loud crash, followed by a bang.

Sergio Murguia's workout class was wrapping up for the week on the left side of the building.

"We were almost at the end. We were working on the shoulders, we were about to move into the core," he said.

People working out on the other side of the building were unaware of what had happened before someone rushed in and yelled, "Dial 911!"

"You just hear people screaming, people on the floor. I just didn't know what to do," Murguia said.

The building was evacuated and is closed for the rest of the day.

Two people who were taking a workout class were hospitalized with minor injuries. No other injuries have been reported and the driver was apparently unharmed.

The contractor says the building's owner is now planning to put up barriers in front of the building to prevent this from happening again.

A similar incident occurred at the same YMCA in November of 2018.

"It's going to be a while before I can do this again, start teaching again. I'm going to take maybe a couple weeks off,"  Murguia said.

A woman accidentally drove into the building instead of parking her car. She was not injured.
