SPOKANE, Wash — There is a lot going on at Skyfest 2017. The air show and open house at Fairchild Air Force Base is open to the public and has free admission during its duration July 29 and 30. KREM 2 compiled together some of the events so you can make the most of your time at this years Skyfest! According to the Skyfest website, doors open at 9 a.m., the air show begins at 11 a.m. and concludes at 4 p.m.

One of the most anticipated events at Skyfest 2017 is the U.S. Air Force Thunderbirds. The Thunderbirds are strictly a demonstration crew that performs all over the world and helps the Air Force recruit.

Also at Skyfest is a K9 police dog demonstration, a rapid strike flight simulator, a climbing wall and kid zone.

Skyfest 2017 is celebrating 75 years of heritage and community partnership for Fairchild AFB. Helping showcase the history, there will be a historic military vehicle display.

The air show will have areas dedicated to merchandise, food and drink as well.

For those interested in joining the armed forces, there will be an armed forces recruiting area on base.

According to the Skyfest website, there will be more than 20 demonstrations and static displays at the show. The air show and open house is sure to have something for the entire family to enjoy.

The Skyfest website also has an option for those interested in getting a little extra out of their Skyfest 2017 experience. According to the website, VIP tickets are offered. The upgraded experience includes private seating, a lunch buffet, flightline viewing of the show and a children’s coloring station.

According to Fairchild AFB website, there are new security policies that limit what items can be brought to Skyfest 2017. The list of permitted and prohibited items is below:

Prohibited Items:

  • Coolers
  • Excessively large bags
  • Weapons of any kind, to include pepper spray
  • Flammable items
  • Silly string/Spray paint/Permanent markers
  • Alcohol, marijuana, illegal drugs of any kind
  • Glass bottles/liquids without factory seal
  • Bicycles, skateboards, scooters or rollerblades
  • Pets
  • Ground/Air remote controlled vehicles, to include drones
  • Walkie-talkies, HAM radios, Scanners
  • Laser pointers

Authorized Items:

  • Transparent, clear or mesh backpacks/bags no larger than 12"x12"x6"
  • Small clutch bags, approximately the size of a hand
  • Hand carried items: diaper bag or "fanny pack"
  • One gallon clear plastic bags
  • Pocket knives with less than a 3.5 inch blade can be retained by owner
  • Baby bottles/formula
  • Stroller or wagon for children
  • Service animals
  • Plastic beverage bottles with factory seal intact
  • Hand carried diaper bags and "fanny packs"

What to bring to Skyfest 2017:

  • Reusable water bottles (empty while going through security, free water stations available inside)
  • Sunscreen
  • Portable/foldable chairs for watching performances
  • Cameras and video cameras
