KELLOGG, Idaho – A major water main break in Kellogg is expected to be repaired by Thursday afternoon.

Chad Nelson with the Central Shoshone County Water District said crews have been on site of the water main break since 6:30 a.m. Wednesday morning.

The water main break forced the Kellogg School District to close Thursday.

Nelson said the break is in a 24-inch main, which is difficult to work with. The main is near the Coeur d’Alene river, so ground water is posing challenges for workers.

Crews hope to have the break repaired midday Thursday, with service being restored by Thursday evening.

Once service is restored, the water district will issue a boil order.
