SPOKANE, Wash. – Avista is warning utility customers of a phone scam going around.

Officials said in a release the caller claims to be with Avista or a local utility company, and demands payment via a prepaid card to avoid shutoff.

“Don’t fall for it,” officials wrote in a release. “If you receive a call claiming to be Avista and have any cause for concern, hang up and call us at 800-227-9187.
